1. Attendance
Regular attendance is required and is essential for success in this course. Absences will be excused only under exceptional circumstances supported by official documentation (e.g., a medical emergency). Appropriate documentation must be submitted for each excused absence.
Up to five (5) absences are permitted without affecting the course grade. Beginning with the sixth absence, points will be deducted from the final course score for each additional absence. Students who accumulate ten (10) or more absences will automatically receive a final grade of F.
2. Class Participation
Active participation in class discussions and activities is an integral part of this course. Korean is the primary language of instruction, and students are expected to use Korean throughout class. The use of English, particularly for conversations unrelated to course content, is not permitted.
Students who arrive late will receive a deduction from their participation grade for each tardy. Students are also expected to bring all required course materials to every class, including handouts posted on Canvas, textbooks, workbooks, and any other assigned materials. Points will be deducted for failing to bring the required materials.
3. Homework and Reading Assignments
All homework and reading assignments must be submitted by the specified deadlines. Late assignments will not be accepted.
4. Presentations
Students will give either individual or group presentations during the quarter. Presentations will be evaluated based on preparation, fluency, grammatical accuracy, pronunciation, sentence structure, vocabulary usage, and effectiveness in engaging the audience. Detailed presentation guidelines and evaluation criteria will be provided in class.
5. Biweekly Exams and Final Exam
Biweekly exams and the final exam will assess only the material covered in class. Make-up exams will not be administered except in cases of documented, legitimate absences. Students requesting a make-up exam must provide official documentation supporting their absence. Requests for make-up exams without appropriate documentation will be approved with a maximum possible score of 70% of the total exam points.
Your final course grade will be based on the following components:
| 1. Attendance and Participation (10 points × 50 class meetings) | 500 |
| 2. Homework Assignments |
| Grammar (20 points × 5 assignments) | 100 |
| Recording (15 points × 5 assignments) | 75 |
| 3. Oral Presentations (40 points × 4 presentations) | 160 |
| 4. Biweekly Exams (100 points × 3 exams) | 300 |
| 5. Final Exam (200 points × 1 exam) | 200 |
| Total | 1,335 points |
Letter Grades
The Korean Language Program uses a comprehensive grading system to recognize student achievement and measure progress throughout the course.
An A represents outstanding achievement that exceeds the stated course requirements. Students earning an A demonstrate exceptional language proficiency, consistent improvement, strong commitment, and a level of performance that goes beyond course expectations.
Grades of B, C, and D indicate above-average, satisfactory, and minimally passing performance, respectively. Students who do not meet the minimum course requirements will receive a grade of F.
| Grade | Percentage |
| A | 93–100% |
| A− | 90–92.9% |
| B+ | 87–89.9% |
| B | 83–86.9% |

Placement Policy
Students should be aware that enrollment in a particular course level is subject to the instructor's evaluation of their Korean language proficiency. Students may be reassigned to a different course level if the instructor determines that another level is more appropriate for their language ability.
